While beauty ideals may vary, lip qualities such as symmetry, softness and smoothness remain consistently desirable.
Desirable lips do not necessarily always mean bigger lips. When it comes to treating lips with dermal fillers it is definitely not a case of one size fits all and unfortunately lips are probably the area we most often see undesirable treatment outcomes, over inflated, uneven or lumpy lips are not a good look.
Creating a natural, balanced looking lip treatment requires experience, skill and artistic ability. There are many options available for enhancing and rejuvenating lips to produce natural looking results, personalised to each individual.
What is a Lip Filler?
A Lip Filler is a dermal filler treatment for the lips. The dermal fillers used at Euphoria Cosmedic Clinic are made from complex sugar chains and are combined with a unique stabilisation process to make them last. This gel-like substance is found naturally in the body already, where its main role is to attract water and provide hydration to the skin. Dermal fillers are administered via a needle after the area has been numbed using a topical prescription numbing agent.
What can be treated with Lip Filler?
Lip fillers can be used to;
- Soften lines on and around the lips
- Correct and balance asymmetries of the lips
- Add shape and volume to naturally thin lips
- Restore fullness to the lips that has been lost over time
- Improve hydration and create a subtle enhancement of the lips
What are the different options for Lip Fillers?
The fillers used at Euphoria are all made of the same gel-like substance, but there are some variations between the products, allowing us to use the most suitable product for what we are hoping to achieve. The thickness of the product will generally determine how and where a dermal filler is used.
The fillers used in the lips at Euphoria can generally be classified into 2 categories:
1. Hydrating Fillers
These are very fine fillers used for general hydration or very subtle enhancement of the lips, but not for shaping or adding a lot of volume.
2. Fine Fillers or Fillers Specifically Made for the Lips
These are fillers which can be used for contouring of the lips, reducing fine lines, correcting asymmetries, and adding/restoring volume to the lips. There are multiple products from this category that may be used and the Nurse will advise you of the best option for you during your consultation.
What will I look like after my treatment?
Many people are concerned that they will look ‘fake’ or have ‘fish lips’ if they undergo a lip filler treatment. This is usually because they have seen undesirable or extreme results on others. It’s important to remember that you will not always notice a good, natural result because it is just that; natural. Through artistic ability and the use of the correct product in the correct place, we are able to achieve extremely natural looking results. Your personal desires will be discussed with you during your consultation.
What is the down-time for a Lip Filler treatment?
Your Nurse will advise you of the possible side effects and what to expect after your treatment during your consultation. You will also be given an after-care sheet to take home with you if you go ahead with a treatment.
As an indication, the most common and expected side-effects you may experience include;
- Slight pain or tenderness
Initial swelling (the first 48 hours) after a lip treatment can be quite significant for some patients but others may have little to no swelling. Generally speaking, for the first few days the result you see will likely not be the final result. The use of an ice pack during that first day or two can help to reduce the swelling. Possible down-time must be considered when organising a suitable date for your appointment. For example, you shouldn’t schedule a lip filler treatment right before a big event (e.g. a wedding).
One of the most popular dermal filler brands we use at Euphoria offers products that are manufactured in such a way that the swelling is often significantly less for most clients.
How long does a Lip Filler generally last?
The lip fillers used at Euphoria are long-lasting but not permanent. Your body will metabolise the product naturally over time. The length of time between subsequent treatments will vary from person to person and can depend on things such as genetics, lifestyle, or metabolism, as well as the type and amount of product used. You can expect to retreat at 6-9 months to maintain the result, but some people find it lasts them longer.
Will the treatment hurt?
The area will be numbed with topical anaesthetic before the treatment, and the product to be injected also contains a local anaesthetic for your added comfort. Afterwards, applying a cold compress and the use of a mild pain relief medication will also help with any discomfort. Avoiding certain activities for the first few days, such as drinking alcohol, strenuous exercise, excessive heat (saunas, sunbaking, spas etc.) or flying may all help to keep your swelling and discomfort to a minimum.
